Replacing the factory intercooler piping can be a great way to gain some efficiency. The stock piping is usually engineered for cost savings and ease of manufacture, not absolute performance. For this reason, the stock piping usually has more rubber hose than it should, and is packaged into the engine bay as an afterthought. Rubber hose in the intercooler pipe system is not ideal, and will expand under heat and pressure causing a loss of boost pressure and efficiency. Simply turning up the boost will NOT regain these losses! Add a few years of use, and the stock rubber hoses should be replaced. The ends have a hose retention bead formed onto the ends to prevent the hoses from blowing off.
